Using our relationship to gravity as a departure point, we will explore different ways to allow breath, weight, use of opposition, fall and recovery, isolation, and succession to enrich movement. Consciousness and application of these principles will allow us to access specific qualitative shifts in the body. We will explore how the manner in which we use the Humphrey/Limón principles constantly shifts the relationship between time, space, and energy. We will also delve into the intrinsic physical metaphors that are born from the motivations inherent in this humanistic technique. To explore the concepts I will use a fusion of material from the repertory of José Limón and contemporary material of my own creation. The class will consist of phrase work in the center and locomotion through the space that includes explorations on the floor, standing, and air-born moments.
Music by John Lander
Featuring Dancers Ty Graynor, Victoria Strata, and Mark Willis
